About The Artist

Living on the east coast of England, not far from London, Steve Read is a self taught artist due to obtaining qualifications at 'O' and 'A' level in non-art related subjects such as Maths, English, Geography, Physics and Chemistry. He did however obtain 'A' levels in Technical and Machine drawing. At one point Steve was contemplating further education at art college but decided against that course of action as he did not relish the thought of another three years of formal study and examinations and was keen to make his way in the world of illustration, this being the field in which he really wanted to work.
Steve started a business in signwriting and mural design to finance himself while he attempted to gain work as an illustrator. Despite the success of this business Steve ceased signwriting when he joined Meiklejohn, one of the UK's top artists' agencies. That was in 1987 and he has worked as a freelance illustrator ever since doing work for many different clients including Barclays Bank, Sainsbury's, BP, Franklin Mint and Benson & Hedges.

Below is a small selection of the work Steve has completed over the years.
